Few cities celebrate Halloween quite like Gatlinburg, TN! Whether you’re looking to add some chills and thrills to a romantic getaway, or you want to plan some spooky fun for the whole family, the Smoky Mountain area has got you covered. Gatlinburg Cabin Rentals has put together a guide to four of our favorite Gatlinburg Halloween activities for your fall vacation:
1. Visit the Mysterious Mansion
The Mysterious Mansion has been scaring visitors to Gatlinburg for over 35 years, and it is showing no signs of slowing down! This three story Victorian style home is filled with winding stairways, dark corridors, secret passageways, and more than a few surprise guests that will have the hairs on the back of your neck standing on end. The Mysterious Mansion in Gatlinburg is known for its authentic antique furnishings and its genuinely creepy atmosphere.
During the month of October, the mansion offers Halloween presentations on weekend evenings. These special shows are far more intense than the usual Mysterious Mansion experience, so we don’t recommend them for young children. Guests will also enjoy extended hours that run past 11 p.m. or even after midnight.

2. Take a Gatlinburg Ghost Tour
Gatlinburg has a long and fascinating history, making it the perfect location for a ghost tour. While many companies offer spooky tours of the city, our favorite is Ghost & Haunt Tours of Gatlinburg. Guests on this tour will hear true, verifiable stories from Gatlinburg’s past that are mixed with local legends and popular myths.
There are no cheesey "ghosts" to jump out and scare you, but guests will visit the actual locations were some of Gatlinburg’s darkest moments happened. A highlight of the tour is the visit to White Oak Flats Cemetery, where some of the city’s most notorious and troubled residents are buried. It’s easy to see why this ghost tour is one of the most popular Gatlinburg Halloween activities!
3. See the Shocktober Show at the Gatlinburg Space Needle
Every October, the Iris Theater at the Gatlinburg Space Needle hosts its annual Shocktober show. This special performance, held on select dates throughout the month, features frightening and hilarious tricks from some of the most talented magicians and illusionists in Gatlinburg. You may scream, you may laugh, but you will certainly not be bored!
4. Trick or Treat Kickoff Karnival in Downtown Gatlinburg
On Halloween day, Gatlinburg hosts its annual Trick or Treat Kickoff Karnival. Come to the plaza in front of Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies from 1 – 5 p.m. to play games, take pictures with costumed characters, and eat lots of candy. Kids (and their parents) are encouraged to dress up for the event!
