One of the best ways to experience the beauty of the Smoky Mountains is with a guided hike at Ober Gatlinburg! This new program offers a great introduction to hiking that is fun, educational, and full of adventure for the entire family! As a bonus, you can stick around after your hike to enjoy some of the other attractions on the mountain such as the Ski Mountain Coaster, Scenic Chairlift, and Wildlife Encounter! Here are the top 4 things to know about the guided hikes at Ober Gatlinburg:
1. What to Expect
These guided hikes offer a beautiful 1.5-mile hike through the woods where you will encounter unique features such as ponds, steps, a bridge, and even a wishing well! Since the trail surrounds the 60-year-old ski slopes that border Great Smoky Mountains National Park, you will also find scenic photo opportunities, seasonal wildflowers, and perhaps even a few wildlife sightings! Your experienced guide will share some of the history of the area and show points of interest along the trail, so be sure to bring your camera along for the adventure!
2. Who Can Go on the Hike
While the guided hike at Ober Gatlinburg is geared towards beginners, keep in mind that the trail does gain 300 feet in elevation. It ranges from easy rolling hills to a few short bursts of moderate uphill climbs. However, there is no need to worry—there are several opportunities along the trail to rest and hydrate! The hike is recommended for the whole family, but note that the minimum age requirement is 6 years old.
3. Dates, Times, and Ticket Information
The guided hiking sessions are currently offered on weekdays at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm. The sessions are scheduled throughout the remainder of the summer and into the fall months. Autumn can be a particularly good time to go with cooler weather and stunning fall foliage! You can purchase hiking tickets in advance to secure your spot for the date and time of your choice.
4. Things to Bring on the Hike
The guided hikes at Ober Gatlinburg take place rain or shine, so be sure you are adequately prepared for the weather conditions! Some of the recommended items for your hiking checklist include a small hiking daypack, hiking boots or shoes, a refillable bottle full of water, insect repellant, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and hiking poles. If you happen to forget anything when packing for your hike, the retail associates at The Shops at Ober would be happy to help out!
