As the last traces of winter melt away, the Smokies come to life again with beautiful scenery and a variety of special events. Spring is the perfect time to relax and come spend some time away from everyday life. Here are 3 perks of taking a spring getaway at our Gatlinburg TN vacation rentals:
1. Gorgeous Wildflowers
Spring brings an incredible display of beautiful wildflowers to the Gatlinburg area. With over 1,500 types of flowering plants to see, it’s no wonder the Smokies are also known as “Wildflower National Park”! One of the best ways to see the flowers is to take a scenic hike in the mountains. Some of the trails we recommend for wildflower viewing include Porter Creek, Kanati Fork, Little River and Gregory Ridge. If you would prefer to take a guided tour of the blooms, sign up for the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage. This five day event during the second to last week in April consists of a great collection of walks, motorcades, and workshops that celebrate spring in Gatlinburg. Make sure too register for the hikes and classes that appeal to you on your next trip to the Smokies!
2. Perfect Weather for Picnics
With average highs in the 70’s, the spring climate in Gatlinburg is ideal for dining in the outdoors. 3. Festivals at Dollywood
When Dollywood reopens for the spring, guests have two excellent festivals to look forward to. From mid-March through mid-April, the theme park will host the Festival of Nations. This annual event brings talented performers from all around the world to Dollywood for a series of special shows. In years past, the Festival of Nations has showcased African dancing, Ecuadorian music, German stilt walking, and a ukulele orchestra. In mid-May, Dollywood celebrates the popular Barbeque & Bluegrass Festival. Some of the very best bluegrass musicians in the country will perform hundreds of concerts at the theme park. All of these shows are free with park admission! In addition to the great music, Dollywood will also be serving up heaping helpings of delicious barbeque with all of the fixin’s. The theme park’s chefs are always cooking up new recipes, so be sure to come hungry.
