The comfortable cabins at Gatlinburg Cabin Rentals are the perfect destination for a winter getaway to the Great Smoky Mountains. In fact, many of our guests prefer visiting Gatlinburg during the winter season! After all, despite the colder temperatures, there are still plenty of fun, outdoor winter activities in Gatlinburg TN to enjoy during the cooler months. Here are four fun things to do in the winter while staying in our cozy cabins:
1. Enjoy A Hike at Great Smoky Mountains National Park
The winter season can be a wonderful time of year to enjoy a hike at Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which is open 24 hours a day and 365 days per year. Winter temperatures in the Smokies are generally moderate, and the most popular hiking trails are far less crowded during this time of year. Of course, temperatures can fluctuate throughout the season, so be sure to check the latest forecast before heading out to the trails! Also, review the official park website to find current information about open trails and park conditions.
2. Hit the Slopes at Ober Gatlinburg
For some exciting outdoor winter adventures, head out to Ober Gatlinburg! This is one of our favorite winter activities in Gatlinburg TN! This popular ski area offers 10 slopes for skiers and snowboarders, as well as a terrain park. The slopes are perfectly maintained throughout the winter with snowmaking equipment, and the season generally runs from December to March. Ober Gatlinburg offers a variety of ticket plans that allow unlimited use of the ski slopes for a specified time period, and ski and snowboard equipment is available for rent on a first come, first serve basis. For those prefer tubing, Ober Gatlinburg also has several exhilarating snow tubing runs, too!
3. Ride the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster
Although many folks may think of rollercoasters as a summertime activity, the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster is open all year for your winter enjoyment! This family oriented thrill ride provides the unique opportunity to control your own coaster car speed with individual brake handles. Therefore, you can enjoy a leisurely ride down the mountain or a thrilling brakeless journey! The Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster has an uphill lift system where no walking is required, and each coaster car is designed to accommodate one or two riders.
4. Relax in the Hot Tub at Your Cabin
Of course, a highlight of any winter vacation to the Great Smoky Mountains is relaxing outdoors in your private hot tub! Many of our cabins feature refreshing hot tubs on the deck where you can kick back to enjoy the beautiful winter scenery or relax under the stars at night. Imagine coming back to your cozy cabin after a day of hiking or sightseeing, then warming up in the hot bubbling waters of your cabin’s hot tub… delightful!
